Sarah Chandler

Sarah Chandler (she/they) is invested in the human experience and how it is represented through live performance. She has worked professionally as a freelance manager for two decades. Some of her favorite projects include: The Garden with Nichole Canuso Dance Company, having toured this show with NCDC to Sweden and Italy in the last few years; Lashed But Not Leashed, an original drag-concert-theatre touring piece with Dito van Reigersberg as Martha Graham Cracker; and, the Obie-award winning piece Chekhov Lizardbrain on which she had the pleasure of being an original collaborator with Pig Iron Theatre Company.

As an Associate Professor of Performing Arts Management, Chandler’s research focuses on the artistry of management,

asking questions such as:

  • How does a manager impact, create, contribute to a culture of care and creativity within a rehearsal room or at an arts organization while also serving as the logistics coordinator?

  • What are the methods of creative infusion a manager can have within a system that contains predetermined and defined roles?

  • How can universal design and access offer pathways for creativity within the logistics of creative collaboration?

Chandler is trained as an Intimacy Director and utilizes those skills and tools to support safe, sustainable, and authentic creative practices.
